Leberkaese is a fine-ground Bavarian specialty loaf made from pork and beef. It makes an excellent lunch or a quick, easy evening meal. Its mild flavor makes it a great choice for serving to children
Leberkaese is fully cooked and tastes best heated, but many people enjoy it cold with bread or crackers.
To heat in slices: Slice 1/2″ to 1″ thick piece and fry in pan with butter. Serve the pan-fried Leberkaese with a fried egg on top and potato salad on the side. You can also cut the loaf into thick strips to be put on skewers and grilled.
To heat an entire loaf: Defrost completely and remove from plastic bag. Heat oven to 325°F. Put loaf in a baking pan with a little water on the bottom. For a browner top to the loaf, baste with a little sugar water or a crisp, citrus soda such as Sprite or 7UP. Heat uncovered for 75-90 minutes. Serve hot from the oven in thick slices with mustard and potato salad on the side.
Will keep up to 1 week after arrival if refrigerated in original vacuum-sealed packaging. Should packaging become loose—indicating an air leak—remove sausage immediately and wrap in paper towel.
You can freeze this item for up to 2 months without affecting its flavor or quality. If frozen, defrost slowly in refrigerator for 2 days before using; do not thaw at room temperature.
