Every Ostheimer Wooden Toy is hand-crafted in Germany. From the draft to the finished product all toys pass through many hands while they are designed, sawed out, sanded, rubbed-off, painted with non-toxic stain and oiled. This way each of their adorable wooden figures become a unique original made for children’s hands and telling its own story.

Ostheimer wooden toys have been loved by children for over 70 years. Ostheimer’ wonderfully expressive wooden toys and figures are produced from hardwoods of the finest quality, such as maple, elm and ash.

In her own words: “It is the fantasy of our children alone that breathes life into the seemingly stiff wooden figures, the form and color of which purposely have been reduced to an essential minimum. It is apparent how little coaching our children need to dive into their worlds.”
Ostheimer are today unique in the way that they make their beautiful wooden figures. Each template is transferred to the wood and sawn out by hand. Each figure is then given its characteristic Ostheimer carving, then sanded, hand painted and finally dipped in walnut oil. At each stage of the process the human hand is present and in control.
